Aerobics for Weight Loss
Aerobics is another popular way of getting fit and losing a few pounds at the same time. Aerobics is favoured by many as most classes involve movements to music, so it is similar to a dance workout albeit you’re not expected to be particularly graceful – ideal if you’re not a natural dancer!
There are several types of aerobics, though the main categories are high and low impact aerobics. High impact aerobics involve exercise where both feet are off the ground – star jumps, for example. Low impact aerobics less intensive, and will focus more on keeping at least one foot on the floor, which is better if you’re looking for a gentle workout.
Other fads have been introduced into aerobics routines, such as body combat and kickboxing moves. These tend to fall under the high impact category, and as you progress through courses you will find that aerobics workouts can be highly intensive, thus making them ideal for losing weight and toning the body at the same time.
Aerobics are suitable for most, though the higher impact classes may not be appropriate if you suffer from injuries or aren’t up to a rigorous routine. Classes are typically fairly inexpensive as one instructor can take a fairly large group, making aerobics accessible to all. Your best bet is to go down to a local leisure centre and watch the classes you are interested in joining first to see if you’d be interested and if you think you can keep up!
A good pair of trainers is a must to cushion the feet and prevent unnecessary shocks being transferred up your legs and back during the exercises, particularly if you are keen on a high impact class. You are also likely to build up a sweat, so be prepared for a vigorous workout and take plenty of fluids. But most important of all is that you enjoy it. Aerobics is supposed to be a fun and challenging way of getting fit and shedding a few pounds, so make the most of it!
